DACA's National Newsletter Award newsletter, The Metrogram, is published quarterly to coincide with regular meetings. The newsletter is emailed to all DACA liaisons.  Hardcopy subscriptions are also available at $8 per year. To request a subscription, send a check (made out to DACA) to:

History

The Dallas Area Council of American Business Women’s Association was founded by the original 1990 ABWA National Convention Officers:  Emma Shelton, General Chair; Patricia Van Winkle – Secretary; and Debbie Champion – Treasurer. These officers had such bundled up energy and enthusiasm, they released it by forming a Dallas Area Council. The actual birth of DACA was December 7, 1986 at a gathering at the Carrollton Library.   Plans were formalized on January 31, 1987 and the first DACA meeting took place February 1987.

DACA was created to bring together the area-wide chapters working on the 1990 ABWA National Convention.  Each chapter brings its own unique personality and talents to share with the council.  The objective in forming DACA was a sincere effort to get to know and support one another, as well as pooling our diverse talents and resources for the common good of all.

Since its inception, it has undergone many changes and wonderful growth so that today it compliments the chapters, offering opportunities for knowledge and personal development.  DACA currently offers a special training session for new chapter officers and committee chairs of such quality that all members attending are able to receive continuing education credit.

Some of the outstanding events DACA has hosted over the years are:

·         Visions - A woman’s annual expo attended by 20,000 women.

·         Texas Women’s Conference - hosted by the Governor of Texas.

·         Annual “STRUT” for 10 years - a community recognition.

·         Annual Woman of the Year Luncheon - recognition of all area chapter Women of the Year.

·         Fall or Spring Fling - getaway weekend just for fun.

·         Texas Roundup - a recognition of Texas National Officers.

·         Angel Award - a recognition of an outstanding woman for her contributions in the community.

·         Annual Leadership Seminar - educate and expand current leadership skills of chapter officers, committee chairs, and interested members.

·         Reception for National Executive Director, Carolyn Elman.

·         Hosting the ABWA 2005 National Women's Leadership Conference
